Coach J: From Griz to Grind
Meet Coach Jeramiah “Boot” Butenschoen: Discipline Wins. Always.
At Desert Dawgs Football, we don’t just coach—we prepare. And no one embodies that mentality more than Coach Jeramiah “Boot” Butenschoen.
A Montana native with deep roots in competitive sports, Coach Boot is a proven leader on and off the field. As a former Division I defensive tackle for the University of Montana Grizzlies, he helped power his team to the National Championship game in 2000. Wearing #59, he earned two varsity letters and left it all on the field every single down.
A Lifetime in Athletics. A Legacy in Coaching.
Jeramiah grew up grinding through baseball, wrestling, and football seasons in Billings, Montana. After graduating from the University of Montana in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science, he became a certified personal trainer and performance coach, specializing in functional movement and sports performance.
His training resume includes mentorship through EXOS, one of the world’s premier performance coaching organizations. He’s worked with every kind of athlete—from weekend warriors to professionals—with one consistent goal: improve by 1% every day.
Coach Boot also brings a sharp edge to communication and leadership, honed from his background in medical device sales—a field that demands precision, integrity, and confidence.
The Defensive Mind Behind Arizona’s #1 Youth Rank
In Spring 2025, Coach Boot led the 8U Texans defense to the #1 ranking in both points allowed and point differential—across the largest youth football league in Phoenix, Arizona. The numbers weren’t just good—they were dominant.
But that’s not where the story ends.
The very next day, Coach J took on a brand-new challenge: coaching the 10U Falcons, a freshly assembled group of "free agents" who had never played together before the season. Without help, he led them all the way to a Bracket B Championship, proving once again that leadership and fundamentals win championships.
Coach Boot’s Mentality: No Excuses. No Favorites. Just Work.
What makes Coach J different? He doesn’t play favorites. He doesn’t tolerate excuses. Every athlete is treated with the same high standard. He’s a no-nonsense, discipline-first coach who pushes his players to show up, work hard, and stay coachable. His motto is simple: get 1% better each day.
Every practice, every drill, every rep—he demands maximum focus. Why? Because discipline wins.
