About the 8U Texans – Arizona Brigade

The 8U Texans are a championship-caliber youth flag football team competing under the Arizona Brigade Youth Flag Football League. Based in Scottsdale and North Phoenix, the Texans are known for their high-performance culture, elite defensive identity, and relentless work ethic.

In an age group where many are still learning the basics, we push our athletes to reach elite speed, focus, and football IQ—because winning starts with preparation.

The Texans Identity

The Texans were formed to do one thing: build winners—on and off the field. Every player is coached to compete with class, lead with integrity, and respond to adversity with toughness and clarity. We live by the "1-0 mentality": win every rep, every moment, every opportunity.

With deep roots in the Desert Dawgs culture, we uphold the same core values:

We emphasize the importance of effort over outcome, and mental toughness over excuses.

Elite Coaching. Defensive Dominance.

Led by Defensive Coordinator Jeramiah “Coach J” Butenschoen, also known as BOOT and a former standout at the University of Montana, the Texans’ defense became #1 in the league—built on speed, pressure, communication, and relentless energy.

Training Philosophy

We train like we play: with pace, focus, and accountability. The Texans’ athletes go through:

  • Structured weekly practices with a focus on speed, agility, and football IQ

  • Film review and playbook walkthroughs to build mental toughness

  • Game-day simulation reps to prepare players for high-pressure moments

Players sharpen route running, coverage skills, and situational awareness—developing elite-level football sense early.

Championship-Caliber Results

In just one year, the 8U Texans made their name known statewide:

  • Fall 2024 Season:

    • Runner-Up Finish in the Arizona Brigade League Championship

    • Lost by 1 point on the final play of the title game

  • Spring 2025 Season (A Bracket):

    • Won the top bracket in a pool of 26+ teams

    • Held the #1 offense and #2 defense during the regular season

    • Finished #1 in both after defeating top-seeded teams in playoffs

    • Semifinal: Beat #2 Chargers 52–8

    • Final: Beat #1 Panthers 20–13 in a gritty, emotional victory
